Sonos has been teasing both in and out of email social media, that the “most desired product of all time” will be “coming soon” on May 21 (next Tuesday). Of course, these are almost certainly Sonos Ace, the first wireless headphones.
Sonos was expected to release the Ace in June, but given the company’s “most desirable” phrase and the fact that the headphones recently went on sale at Schuurman’s authorized retailer, it seems they’ll arrive sooner.
This week’s launch could facilitate Sonos placid the anger surrounding the launch of a novel app earlier this month. The app was allegedly built in part to support Sonos Ace, but it lacks key features like a sleep timer or local library management features. It may take months for these features to be restored in the app.
Roam and Ace aside, there’s not much else the company is likely to announce this week. Rumor has it that Sonos is preparing to launch a TV streaming device, but not until the end of this year at the earliest. The same goes for the Sonos Arc soundbar rumors. And it seems quite likely that its “most desired product of all time” will be the next Sonos Sub or the business-oriented Era 100. The headphones make perfect sense and would usher in the first of four novel product categories the company is expected to enter.
