If we’ve learned anything from Aubrey Plaza over the years, it’s that she rarely takes things lightly. This applies not only to her film and TV roles, but also to her sartorial choices – and that’s what makes her a perfect fit for designer Jonathan Anderson, the current original director at Loewe, for which Plaza is currently an ambassador. Their latest fashion collaboration? The dress she wore to the Cannes premiere Megalopolis. While the overall look had many elements of classic Ancient Hollywood glamour, the gown obviously included the unexpected touches that have recently become synonymous with the fashion house.
As Plaza walked the carpet alongside highly anticipated director Francis Ford Coppola and his partner Adam Driver, all eyes were on her floor-length ivory satin gown with long sleeves and a drop waist finished with twisted fabric detailing. Celebrity stylist, Jessica Shepherd, completed the look with emerald and diamond Piaget jewels. And while her gentle makeup and finger waves harked back to the 1920s, the overall effect was thoroughly current. And that’s what made it immediately stand out in the sea of other bands at this year’s festivities – whether you liked it or not.
This isn’t the first time Plaza has worn a polarizing Loewe dress on the red carpet. She appeared at the 2024 Emmy Awards in a pale yellow satin dress from the brand’s spring/summer 2024 collection. Although it fits perfectly White Lotus Given the star’s quirky sensibilities, the dress actually invited comparisons to sticky notes and envelopes due to its square bodice. Another example of Plaza and Anderson’s mutual appreciation for the unusual came just last month, when the actor appeared alongside Dan Levy in the Loewe fashion film, donning costumes from the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and humorously contemporary.
Plaza joins the growing list of stylish stars who have fallen in love with Loewe’s eccentric creations. Last month, Emily Blunt wore the brand’s botanical-print silk ensemble Autumn guy press event, and Greta Lee, Emma Chamberlain and Ayo Edebiri also attended the events, looking fabulous in outfits designed by the fashion house. But the energetic duo of Anderson and Plaza is truly an exhilarating pair, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
