Founder and CEO of Ola Group of Companies, Bhavish Aggarwal, announced that the company is cutting ties with its current cloud service provider, Microsoft Azure. In a post shared on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Aggarwal also announced that the people transport app is set to migrate all its work to its own artificial intelligence company Krutrim.
The move comes days after Aggarwal’s post about “pronoun disease” was removed from Microsoft-owned job search site LinkedIn. He criticized Microsoft for removing his post from the social networking site LinkedIn. Aggarwal said Microsoft’s artificial intelligence (AI) tool “imposes a political ideology on Indian users that is hazardous and sinister.”
Ola plans to move away from Microsoft’s Azure cloud service
In X’s post, Aggarwal said: “Since LinkedIn is owned by Microsoft and Ola is a huge Azure customer, we have decided to move all our work from Azure to our own Krutrim cloud over the next week. This is a challenge, as all developers know, but my team is very busy with it. We will offer any other developer who wants to leave Azure a full year of free cloud exploit. As long as you don’t go back to Azure afterwards! Write to us at [email protected]. The offer is always open!”
How will this move affect Microsoft? According to a MoneyControl report, ANI Technologies’ Ola is one of Microsoft’s largest consumers. The company cutting ties with the tech giant would mean a loss of over Rs 100 crores in its Azure cloud service business.
In 2017, Ola announced a partnership with Microsoft to build a novel connected vehicle platform for automakers around the world. Since then, the taxi transportation platform has been a client of the American company.
