Actress Aditi Rao Hydari is currently receiving acclaim for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: Diamond Bazaar. She is one of the most talented and versatile actresses in Bollywood. Aditi Rao Hydari, who is lucky enough to be known as the face of period dramas but also enjoys playing a brat, is looking forward to making a “great crime thriller”.
Aditi Rao Hydari’s latest venture is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s pre-partition series ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’. Her tryst with period dramas dates back to Bhansali’s 2018 magnum opus ‘Padmaavat’, in which she played the role of Alauddin Khilji’s wife Mehrunissa. Since then, the actor has also starred in period drama series such as “Taj. Divided by Blood” and “Jubilee”.
“I’m lucky to be the face of these great historical dramas. For some reason, people and directors feel like this works and it belongs to me. Apart from that, I feel very good (working on historical dramas). Maybe it’s my love for music, dance, history and culture. Period dramas take you to a truly Indian space. Even ‘Heeramandi’ has all the Indian aesthetic, dance and music.
“That said, my contemporary life is very vital to me. When I play contemporary roles, I enjoy it. I’ve done a few jobs like this in the South. I like being a brat or fooling around in front of the camera for a bit of a role, whether it’s a romantic comedy or something else,” she added.
The series stars Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Richa Chadha. The series also marks Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s OTT debut. Heeramandi presents a fascinating picture of pre-independence India by bringing together the entire cast. On March 27, the makers of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar announced that the long-awaited web series would premiere on Netflix on May 1.
