Technology companies are racing to create the world’s leading generative artificial intelligence technologies, choosing from: Very petite talent pool. The collection is so petite that The average salary of OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, is almost $1 million.
Schools are starting to try to fill this gap. Just over two months after The University of Pennsylvania has become the first Ivy League to offer a bachelor’s degree in artificial intelligenceannounces its first master’s degree in artificial intelligence.
The graduate program, which will enroll its first cohort of students in the spring semester of 2025, promises to prepare its students to “shape the future of this revolutionary technology.” The class will teach engineers how to build artificial intelligence systems, offering coursework in deep learning and natural language processing, and will also instruct students on the ethical implications of artificial intelligence so they can “prepare to mitigate its risks,” the program’s website says.
“Through this program, our goal is to educate a up-to-date generation of engineers with the skills to analyze emerging trends – not only from a technological perspective, but also from a social and ethical perspective.” Chris Callison-Burch, a computer science professor at UPenn’s engineering school who will lead the school’s up-to-date graduate program, – wrote in the statement.
While UPenn is the first Ivy Leaguer university to make artificial intelligence a major, Carnegie Mellon University became the first university in the world to offer a bachelor’s degree in artificial intelligence in 2018. MIT and Purdue University also preceded UPenn. Meanwhile, universities like Stanford and Princeton offer concentrations or minors in artificial intelligence.
