Indian passenger transport giant Ola is dabbling in the artificial intelligence (AI) space with the launch of its cloud platform Krutrim Cloud. Krutrim Cloud promises to shake up the market by offering competitive pricing and an open ecosystem, specifically catering to the needs of Indian developers.
At a recent event, Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal said that Krutrim Cloud will not only compete with global tech giants like Google and Microsoft but will surpass them in building energy-efficient data centers and offering the most affordable cloud services for AI development .
Aggarwal highlighted the high costs of cloud services that developers are currently facing, especially in India. Krutrim Cloud aims to fill this gap by offering a cost-effective solution.
“We are building our own energy management technology to create the most effective data centers in the world. I’m willing to compete with Microsoft, Google or anyone who says we can do better than them. The cost of the cloud we pay is the same as what US developers pay. How is this justified? We will resolve this issue,” Aggarwal said.
Krutrim Cloud will compete with AWS, Azure and Google Cloud
Krutrim Cloud also stands out for its commitment to openness. Aggarwal criticized established tech giants such as Amazon, Google and Apple for their “closed ecosystems” that limit developers. Krutrim, on the other hand, aspires to be a full-stack AI platform that enables developers to build applications faster and easier.
The focus on accessibility extends to language. Ola claims that the Krutrim Cloud AI assistant is powered by a huge dataset with a powerful representation of Indian languages. Currently, Krutrim Cloud understands and responds intelligently in over 10 Indian languages, with plans to expand its capabilities to cover all 22 official languages.
“Krutrim is India’s global app development platform,” Aggarwal said. “We intend to create many more models that will be useful in the Indian context. We are working on voice models, vision-based models, etc.” – he added, emphasizing Krutrim’s commitment to meeting the specific needs of the Indian market.
With a focus on affordability, openness and linguistic inclusion, Krutrim Cloud has the potential to be a game-changer in AI development in India and beyond.
