X, Elon Musk’s social network, will begin summarizing in-app events using xAI’s chatbot, Grok.
The AI-generated summaries will be based on user tweets – rather than third-party news articles – and will only be available to premium subscribers, the company announced on Friday. The feature, called “Stories,” doesn’t currently quote any news outlets, but Musk told tech newsletter Massive Technology that better quotes are coming.
“As more information becomes available, the news digest will be updated to include this information,” Musk told Massive Technology, which previously reported on the feature. Grok, an AI chatbot, is not technically owned by X, but is part of xAI, an artificial intelligence startup that is another of Musk’s companies. He spoke openly about Grok training using posts from X.
X, formerly known as Twitter, had a similar product called Moments that relied on human moderators to create news summaries. This product was shut down shortly after Musk took over in slow 2022.
Earlier this year, Musk postponed a visit to India that would have included a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he had to deal with “very earnest” responsibilities at Tesla.
“Unfortunately, Tesla’s very earnest commitments require a delay in its visit to India, but I am looking forward to visiting this year,” the billionaire announced in a post on Portal X. His visit was scheduled for two days – April 21 and 22 – to announce plans to enter the Indian market .
