Believe it or not, it’s been five years since Zendaya last stepped on the Met Gala’s iconic steps. Unfortunately, different filming schedules and the press tour banned the A-lister from Novel York on the first Monday in May for memorable topics like “Gilded Glamour” and “Karl Lagerfeld: The Beauty Line.” But what better way for her to bring back the great Met Gala than to become one of the co-chairs of this year’s illustrious evening? On May 4, 2015, around the beginning of its second Disney Channel Original Series, Central Committee undercoverZendaya attended the Met Gala for the first time as a guest of Sicilian designer Fausto Puglisi. For the theme of “China: Through the Looking Glass,” the fashion muse couldn’t wait to rock a black, red and white mini dress with beaded sun motifs. It wasn’t until the Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between soiree in 2017 that she was officially invited to the ball, and since then, she and Roach have raised the bar every year — most recently in a Cinderella-inspired sparkly Tommy Hilfiger gown. which she wore during ‘Camp: Notes On Fashion’ in 2019 (more on that applause-worthy moment later).

2015
Zendaya first appeared on the Met carpet at the 2015 China: Through The Looking Glass Gala, where she joined Puglisi in a belted, high-waisted minidress with a plunging neckline, long train and astrological beaded embroidery. She accessorized with a gold crown covered in sun-shaped embellishments, a fitted bicep cuff, brown bracelets on both wrists, and black pointy-toe pumps.
2016
The following year, Zendaya attended the “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology” gala as Michael Kors’ plus one, who dressed Challengers star in a gold sequin dress with one sleeve and an elongated train. To make her shimmering, body-hugging number command all the attention, she opted for a minimum of accents, including a striking bob hairstyle, mismatched rings from Argentine jeweler Jorge Adeler and Stuart Weitzman platform pumps.
2017
To celebrate her first solo Met Gala invite, Zendaya went the glamorous route ever in a voluminous off-the-shoulder ballgown by Dolce & Gabbana. Her “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art Of The In-Between” look features a tropical print with a variety of vivid colors, floral motifs and even a few realistic-looking parrots.
2018
For her fourth Met Gala, Zendaya dressed in keeping with the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination” theme in a silver Versace design inspired by Joan of Arc. Atop her round-necked chain dress were two medieval-style armor attachments, including a metal plate plate around her waist and hips and a pauldron around her neck and shoulders.
2019
Zendaya and Roach put the pink carpet on the stage for the 2019 ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ pre-ball, recreating the iconic transformation scene from Cinderella with a blue, sparkly dress from Tommy Hilfiger. Zendaya fully embraced her Disney princess persona, styling her hair back in a classic blonde bun, carrying a Judith Leiber pumpkin bag, and even wearing a pair of glass slippers (which she aptly left on while walking up the stairs).
