A year ago, President Donald Trump pardoned approximately 1,600 people for “crimes related to events that occurred on or near the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.”

The decision to grant a full pardon, one of his first official acts as the 47th president, sparked controversy. It targeted not only those who walked through the Capitol’s open doors without realizing they were trespassing, but also rioters who damaged property and assaulted police.
