Berlin-based streaming guide JustWatch has hired former Mubi and HBO Max executive Quentin Carbonell for the newly created role of SVP of global content acquisition and strategy.
Carbonell’s appointment marks JustWatch’s first step into content licensing. His role includes licensing content for both scripted and unscripted film and television.
Mr. Carbonell was one of Mubi’s early hires, working as director of acquisitions from 2015 to 2018. He then joined WarnerMedia’s FilmStruck to lead content acquisitions, programming and curation before becoming head of streaming and content marketing planning for HBO Max in EMEA.
With 60 million monthly active users worldwide, JustWatch helps users find where to watch movies and TV shows.
The company lists streaming options for more than 470,000 movies and TV shows across more than 1,100 streaming services around the world, and provides this viewing location data and its streaming charts to more than 1,200 partner websites and apps.
The company’s B2B division, JustWatch Media, uses audience data from streaming guides to inform media buying for studios, streaming services, and media agencies.
JustWatch has more than 200 employees worldwide with offices in Los Angeles, London, Paris, Rome, Munich, and Dubai.
“Quentin loves what he does, and that passion is a big part of why he’s been so successful across the industry,” said David Cloie, Founder and CEO of JustWatch. “His deep understanding of JustWatch has made him a key figure in shaping our international content strategy. His energy and perspective will be invaluable as we explore new content initiatives and partnerships that shape the next chapter of JustWatch.”
Mr Carbonell said: “After HBO, joining JustWatch is the most exciting evolution to work with a team driven by excellence that has relentlessly innovated over the past decade and developed amazing products used by tens of millions of people.”
