Troy Edgar, deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, has been named U.S. ambassador to El Salvador.
President Donald Trump announced the nomination on Dec. 16 and praised Edgar’s work at DHS. Edgar served as the department’s chief financial officer during President Trump’s first term and then as deputy secretary, overseeing a budget of about $90 billion that included funding for immigration enforcement and border wall construction.
