Legendary American film director Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle Singer Reiner were found dead in their Brentwood home on Sunday afternoon, December 14th, with apparent knife wounds. Los Angeles police are investigating the suspected murder and were interviewing Reiner’s family Sunday night to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the horrific incident.

Dispatch audio revealed firefighters were called to the couple’s Brentwood home on Chadbourne Avenue for assistance around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office later confirmed the identities of the victims, Rob, 78, and his wife, Michelle, 68. Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said no arrests have been made and detectives will not be searching for anyone as a suspect or person of interest until the investigation is complete.
Hamilton said they must first obtain a search warrant to meet legal requirements before proceeding with the investigation. Once obtained, the case will be handled by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division. The coroner’s office will officially confirm the cause of death.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic deaths of Michelle and Rob Reiner,” a family spokesperson said. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss and ask for privacy at this incredibly difficult time.”

According to his IMDb profile, the legendary Hollywood figure’s final directorial project has been completed and is scheduled for release next year. The project consists of live concert footage of the fictional band Spinal Tap performing at Stonehenge along with other major music artists.
