A bipartisan group of senators introduced a bill on December 4 that would codify existing U.S. restrictions on exports of Nvidia’s advanced AI chips to China and other countries designated as foreign adversaries.

If passed, the Safe and Feasible Chip Exports (SAFE) Act, introduced by Sen. Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.) and Sen. Chris Coons (D-Delaware), would require the Commerce Department to deny export license applications to foreign adversaries such as China, North Korea, Russia and Iran for at least 30 months, according to Ricketts’ office.
