In Week 9 of Monday Night Football, the Dallas Cowboys hosted the Arizona Cardinals. As has been the case all season, the Cowboys’ defense struggled. Despite backup Jacoby Brissett playing in the game, Dallas lost 27-17.
Through the first nine games, the team went 3-5-1. ESPN’s MNF broadcast mentioned that the Cowboys could make a trade ahead of Tuesday’s 4pm ET deadline. That’s exactly what happened Tuesday morning. NFL officials announced that the Cowboys have traded a 2026 seventh-round pick to acquire LB Logan Wilson. He has played in 76 games and started 65 in six seasons.

With a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Bengals selected LB Logan Wilson from Wyoming. As a rookie in 2020, Wilson appeared in 12 games and started two for Cincinnati. By his second season, Logan Wilson became the Bengals’ full-time starter. He has totaled at least 100 tackles over the past four years with the Bengals. Logan Wilson had a reduced role despite being named team captain in 2025.
He was benched in Week 6 in place of rookie LB Barrett Carter. Through eight games and seven starts in 2025, Logan Wilson played in 67% of the Bengals’ defensive snaps. On Tuesday morning, NFL officials announced that the Dallas Cowboys have traded Cowboys to Cincinnati for a veteran running back. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones likened Logan Wilson to former fan favorite Leighton Vander Esch.

Logan Wilson still has two years left on the four-year, $36 million contract he signed with the Bengals in the 2023 offseason. In 2025, the Cowboys rank 31st out of 32 teams in total defense and scoring defense. Only the Bengals are to blame. Jerry Jones said Logan Wilson could come in and give the Cowboys a linebacker role right away.
Heading into Monday’s game against the Cardinals, the Cowboys were allowing their opponents at least 136 rushing yards per game. While the Cowboys held Arizona to no more than 136 rushing yards, Dallas was unable to get stops when needed. Backup running back Emari DeMercado led the team with 79 rushing yards on 14 carries. Dallas has a bye in Week 10, which will give Logan Wilson time to adjust to his new team. His first chance to play for the Cowboys will be in Week 11 against the MNF vs. the Raiders.
