CJ ‘Fiery’ Obasi and Maha Haj’s new work is one of 40 projects in the Red Sea Souq Project Market, the co-production platform of the Red Sea International Film Festival (December 4-13).
This selection consists of 24 projects in development and production stages. Eight titles in development. Red Sea Labs – Eight series titles developed through SeriesLab.

Nigerian film director Obasi is involved in a project currently in progress. pyramida co-production between Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States, Senegal, and Brazil. The movie is a thriller with the extended title La Pyramid: A Celebration of Dark Bodiesand began filming in Brazil earlier this month. We participated in last year’s Red Sea Souk as a development title.
Obasi’s previous features include: mother moonwhich was released at Sundance in 2023 and became Nigeria’s international feature Oscar entry.
Palestinian filmmaker Haji is participating in the project, which is a joint development and production project between Palestine, Germany, France, and Cyprus. theatera full-length fiction novel. The market will open to projects from across Asia for the first time in 2024, with 35% of selected titles coming from the continent. 42% of titles are by female filmmakers. A total of 1,900 applications were received across the souks and labs.
Twelve of the developed or produced titles were developed through Red Sea Labs’ feature film program in partnership with TorinoFilmLab and with support from Film Alula. The other 12 titles in this section will receive pitch guidance from producer Anna Kachko, script consultant David Pope and Films Boutique sales agent Gabor Greiner.
Last year’s Red Sea Souk awarded more than $900,000 in prizes, including a $75,000 production award.
