US President Donald Trump on October 14 threatened to impose tariffs on Spain over Madrid’s refusal to join other NATO allies in raising defense spending to 5% of gross domestic product (GDP).
“I’m very unhappy with Spain. Spain is the only country that didn’t raise it to 5%. Every other NATO member has raised it to 5%,” Trump told reporters during a bilateral meeting over lunch with Argentine President Javier Millei.
