The New York Jets were overseas in London to take on the Denver Broncos in Week 6. In the end, the Jets lost 13-11 to the Broncos, with their offense struggling.
New York kicked three field goals against Denver and scored 11 total points on the safety. On the penultimate play of Week 4, Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson hyperextended his knee. The 25-year-old was visibly injured and did not play in New York’s final play. Wilson underwent an MRI on Monday and will miss “several weeks” with the Jets.

In Week 6 against the Broncos, the Jets’ offense struggled overall. Justin Fields went 9-17 for 45 yards passing. He was sacked nine times for 55 yards. In the NFL, sacks count as passing yards, so Justin Fields technically finished the game with -10 passing yards. This is a franchise low for the Jets in a single game. Additionally, the run game didn’t get much going. As a team, the Jets had 31 carries for 92 yards.
Garrett Wilson was targeted eight times by Justin Fields. Against the Broncos, he caught three passes for just 13 yards. On New York’s penultimate play of the game, Wilson hyperextended his knee. The 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year is undergoing an MRI scan and will likely be sidelined for some time. However, Wilson avoided a long-term injury, which is the best-case scenario for the Jets.

Analysts expect Wilson to miss the next two games against New York in Weeks 7 and 8. The Jets will receive a bye in Week 9. If that happens, Wilson will need at least three weeks to recover from his minor knee injury. In his first three NFL seasons, Garrett Wilson never missed a game. Wilson will likely miss out on his fourth year with the Jets.
Through the first six games, New York’s offense is averaging 20.5 points per game. This ranks them 25th out of 32 teams in the NFL. The Jets’ offense in Week 6 was particularly bad. How will the Jets’ offense fare in the next two games without Wilson? New York will play the Panthers at home in Week 7 and on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8. When will the 0-6 Jets get their first win of the season?
