In week one, the Bears lost 27-24 to the Vikings in a game that could have easily won. However, the defense collapsed, giving Minnesota 21 points in the fourth quarter.
Chicago was facing the lion in its second week. The Bears allowed Detroit to score 52 points compared to Chicago’s 21. In the second quarter of a blown loss to the Lions, CB Jayron Johnson ended the match after suffering a gro caliber injury. Johnson has not returned, but NFL insiders say the 26-year-old is out indefinitely.
Jayron Johnson (gro dia) misses the Chicago Bears time
Bears Pro Bowl cornerback Jayron Johnson has been indefinitely with a gro caliber injury, sources told me. @courtneyyrcronin. The team is still evaluating whether surgery is required, how much Johnson will be on the sidelines, and the full extent of his injuries.

In the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Bears selected CB Jaylon Johnson from Utah. The 2025 season will be his sixth year in Chicago. Ahead of the 2024 season, the Bears signed Jayron Johnson to a maximum contract extension of $76 million over a four-year period. Last season, Johnson started all 17 games for Chicago. He finished with two intercepts, eight passes, one forced fumble, 53 combined tackles and 11 tackles.
Jayron Johnson missed out on all of the Bears training camp and preseason due to a gro caliber injury. Additionally, he didn’t play week 1 matchup vs. Vikings. However, Johnson returned to the field with the Lions in week two. In the second quarter, Jayron Johnson broke up Deeppass aimed at Amon La St. Brown. Soon after that, Johnson left the field and did not return.
Bad to bad

On Monday morning, NFL insider Adam Shefater reported that Jayron Johnson had resculpted his gro caliber injury. It’s not ideal for Chicago’s defense. Chicago has allowed 73 points in football in the last five quarters. This includes the first week of the fourth quarter and Minnesota. Jayron Johnson misses time, but the Bears need players to step into the secondary.
Nick McLeod was in Chicago’s starting nickel corner in 2025. Nursation Light and Josh Blackwell will see more play time while Jaylon Johnson is out. Wright is first with the Chicago Bears in his fifth professional season. He has played in 35 career games and has four starts. Josh Blackwell is in his fourth season with the Chicago Bears, not drafted by Duke. He plays in 44 games and has two career starts. Ahead of the third week matchup vs. Cowboys, the Bears will name a starter to replace Jayron Johnson, who has an injured gro caliber.
