Snapchat recorded roughly 20,000 cases of adults grooming their children online last year than they combined with other social media platforms. This year, tech companies, including Snapchat and Facebook, reported more than 9,600 cases of adults grooming their children online in the UK in just six months last year. This is about 400 people a week.
The FBI and the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) have expressed their increasing alarm for the growing threat from sextrims and other crimes targeting teenagers, among other things, The Guardian reported on Saturday, August 9.
The US-based National Exploited and Exploited Children (NCMEC) received 546,000 reports from high-tech adults around the world, an increase of 192% in 2024 compared to 2023.
Heartless crime with devastating effects
“Sextoritism is a heartless crime that can have devastating consequences for victims. Sadly, teenagers in the UK and around the world are taking their lives for this,” the NCA said in an official statement.
U.S. laws by technology are responsible for warning the NCMEC of suspicious material. The figures show that Snapchat reported approximately 20,000 instances of materials in the first half of last year, including Sexttortortortortortortorms and Child Chedile Abuse Images.
NSPCC’s Rani Govender said Sexttortor and other financially motivated sex offences had a “devastating” effect on young people, affecting their ability to seek support, seek help and in some cases lead to suicide.
NCMEC said it knows “more than three dozen” teenage boys around the world who committed suicide after becoming a victim of Sexttorth since 2021.
However, it is not the first time the FBI has expressed concern over this heinous crime that threatens the future of all children.
Increased threat to minors
in Report In January 2024, the FBI warned that Sexttortor was a growing threat targeting minors. “Criminals deceive and manipulate children to create sexually explicit material for the purposes of the Frightor,” the FBI said.
Financially motivated sextortortor is a criminal act involving criminals who are coercing minors to create and send sexually explicit material.
The agency said it is threatening to release the compromising material unless the offender receives payment.
Economic benefits, not sexual satisfaction
“These offenders are motivated by financial gain and are not necessarily just sexual satisfaction,” the FBI noted.
These crimes lead victims to self-harm and lead to suicide. From October 2021 to March 2023, the FBI and Homeland Security Survey received over 13,000 reports on online financial sexterization of minors. The sextomy involved at least 12,600 victims (mainly boys), leading to at least 20 suicides.
In March this year, the FBI revealed that there are currently more than 250 ongoing investigations in Sexttorm.
