EU diplomats again disagreed on Monday Partial suspension In response to the war in Gaza, several diplomats of Israel from the Horizon Europe Fund said:

Despite gathering online for the regular Mashreq/Maghreb Working Party and putting pressure on Israel on the hunger crisis in Gaza, 27 EU diplomats still failed to reach a majority eligible for the Commission’s proposal to cut Israel from partial access to the EU’s 95 billion euros European research fund.

“The situation has not changed,” one EU diplomat said he did not agree with the committee’s proposal, referring to the formal meeting of the EU ambassador last week. The diplomat said the issue is now in the hands of the EU foreign minister, who will meet informally on August 29th.

Israel faces global criticism Allow starvation On the topic of besieged strips and Hamas and Israel, the proposal itself would primarily be a symbolic gesture.

Israel will lose access to 200 million euros worth of future grants and investments to Horizon’s European Investment Council (EIC), which specializes in so-called disruptive technologies. Committee officials say it will not affect basic or collaborative research support.

But even for minimal sanctions, there was no agreement among Europeans on Monday. Some EU countries prefer to blame Israel through individual initiatives like France Palestine’s perception.

The diplomat said on Monday there was still a shortage of support from major powers like Germany and Italy, which are essential for a qualified majority to pass.

Germany and Italy are some of those who “like to talk with Israel,” he said, but France, Spain and Ireland support the committee’s proposal. Others, including Romania and Finland, are still “examined” the text, he said.

Martin Konekney, head of the European Middle East Project in Brussels, said:

The meeting on Monday also took place the day after the release of two Israeli hostages in Gaza, which appear to be weakened and tormented. It causes anger among Western leaders.
