Bosch will eliminate 1,100 jobs at its Lautlingen plant in southern Germany by the end of 2029, addressing rising costs and market challenges.

“As market conditions change and competitiveness and pricing increase, the company needs to adjust its structure and reduce costs.” 20 minutes.

Cuts primarily affect the production and management role of control devices. Bosch said the segment was “no longer competitive,” prompting a change in focus. The Lautlingen plant will instead focus on future semiconductor manufacturing.

Bosch Engineering also had an impact

Cost reduction measures exceed Lautlingen. Bosch Engineering, a subsidiary of the group, will cut 460 jobs worldwide by the end of 2027, of which 380 will take place in Germany.

Bosch Engineering currently employs 3,100 people worldwide, including 2,200 in Germany. These layoffs come as part of a broader response to what the company describes as “a challenging situation in the automotive industry.”

Pressure from Chinese rivals

Bosch’s decision highlights the growing tensions over the German automotive sector. This is because they are tackling lower demand and increasing competition, particularly from Chinese manufacturers who produce more affordable vehicles.

The company has not announced an immediate plant closure, but the cuts will change dramatically at one of its major German sites.
