What is a festival with little drama? Well, tomorrow, 2025, has been providing ample service to last for the summer. And the door is not open yet! On Wednesday night, just 48 hours before the first beat was supposed to drop, the main stage was burning at the world’s most famous electronic music festival. Also, not only did it have a bit of a fire, but everything remained like a horribly wrong barbecue.
The words spread like wildfires (no pun intended). If you’re one of the thousands who spent months hooking tickets, you probably felt your mind halt in the first photo. There was a crazy rush of messages: “Is the festival cancelled?” “What’s wrong?” “I still packed glitter and a bucket hat?”
No injuries – a big headache for the organizers
Keep big news out of the way: No one was injured. The only real victims were lots of wood, light, and many fireworks. The firefighters were absolute heroes and were able to control things before anyone could approach them. But be honest. Seeing the incredible artwork left behind as an iconic stage, usually a blackened skeleton, was a gut punch for music fans everywhere.
Still, the organizers quickly moved and calmed everyone down. A few hours later, the words came out: Tomorrowland is not cancelled. The Dreamville campground will open on Thursday as planned, with the former Brussels and Antwerp party on the way, and for that, a festival will follow. If anyone can bring out a miraculous reconstruction of the main stage, that’s this lot.
How did the fire start? Pyro suspects and local panic
So, what actually happened? Simple answer: I don’t know yet. Local reports suggest that it may have started with fireworks used in the stage setup. The fire quickly spread, and the fortunes of the Classic Festival – and eventually, even a little of the nearby forests got caught up in chaos. At one point, the police helicopter found another hotspot near the site. As if that wasn’t enough, there are rumours that stray fireworks will land at home and force some families to leave for several hours.
A sea of photos and videos that appear throughout social media becomes a queue. Popular flames, thick smoke, and many worried neighbors. Without taking the chance, Belgian authorities sent B-alert notifications to tell people to stay indoors and close windows.
Even if the main stage looks a little different, the party must continue
Anyone who has been to Tomorrowland now knows that the main stage is more than a background. It is the heart of the festival’s heartbeat and legendary. Just a few days before you lose it, just a few days before you open it, it’s so stressful that it can get for the organizers. But honestly, if there is one thing to unite tomorrow’s crowd, it’s a belief that music cannot be stopped. Whether it’s a strange fire, a storm, or even a global pandemic.
So what now? The festival teams scramble and call on all the experts they can find, and promise they’re ready for Friday. Is it the biggest and most flashy stage in the world? Probably not this year. But if you’re heading there this weekend, bring your good vibe, your patience and perhaps a little extra sparkle.
One thing is certain: you have a story to tell. “Do you remember the year when the stage burned out and the whole festival continued anyway?” Well, that’s the spirit.
