Malta’s Mediteren Film Festival (June 21-29) will honor American actor Barbie Ferreira with his first Rising Star Award.
Ferreira is best known for her role in HBO’s first two seasons A sense of happinessHe will win the award at the Festival Golden Bee Awards ceremony held in Valletta, Malta on June 29th.
The actor made his feature debut last year in 2024 Bob Trevino likes it. The film, directed by Tracie Laymon, was awarded the SXSW 2024 Award in both the Big Jue Cry category and the Audience category.
The festival introduces a third edition award and recognizes emerging stars who have made breakout contributions to the international filmmaking landscape.

This year’s festival marks the 100th anniversary of filmmaking in Malta and celebrates 100 years of cinemas that have shaped the country’s creative landscape. Competition films include Rebecca Lenkiewicz Hot milkStarring Emma Mackie, Fiona Shaw and Uberto Pasolini return.
Other Golden Bee Awards to be handed out at this weekend’s closing ceremony include Best Feature Film, Best Performance and People’s Choice Awards.
