Baleares sees record numbers of freelancers

The Balearic region sees a record number of people registered as self-employed or freelancers.

According to the National Federation of Freelancers (or ATA as known in Spain), from the first term of 2021, there have been more than 120,000 new peers affiliated with the Special Remedies for Self-Employed Workers (RETA). In addition, more than one third is classified Corporate – See the company or self-employed person who has created a different type of legal business structure. This makes the Barears region the third most self-employed community Companies In Spain, it’s just behind the Basque Country and Navarro.

But what is causing this exponential shift? ATA president Luis García attributes it to policies such as the new entrepreneur’s zero-cooking allocation. Additionally, the government is providing support to veteran freelancers who have been active for over 36 months and promoting lifespans.

Jose Antonio Caldes, general director of government business, self-employment and trade in the Balearic region, is also excited to see this dramatic growth and has announced plans to create grants to hire the first young qualified employees and encourage further growth for small and medium-sized businesses.
