As Elon Musk publicly accused Donald Trump of being featured in the so-called “The Epstein Files,” what was long portrayed as a strategic alliance between two powerful figures in American public life this Thursday.
The collapse unfolded in real time on Musk’s social platform X. There, the billionaires began tillard against the former president following a sharp disagreement over Trump’s proposed fiscal policy. Musk labeled the Republican tax and tariff packages as “nasty hatred,” and criticised the people in Congress who supported it, calling it “mistakes.”
Trump appeared to have been stabbed by his comments. “He’s said very good things about me in the past,” the former president told reporters.
Shortly afterwards, Musk responded with a post barrage of barrage of the post, claiming that Trump had lost the election without his support, questioning what happened to the “great man” he once praised. In his most inflammatory claim, Musk states: “Time for the Big Things: Donald Trump is on the Epstein list. So it’s not released. Have a good day, DJT.”
Epstein File
The so-called “Epstein Files” refers to a set of documents that name people who are allegedly benefiting from Epstein’s network. Many names have already emerged, including Trump, but the full scope of evidence has not been revealed that sparked speculation of cover-up, especially in the wake of Epstein’s death in a Manhattan prison in 2019, especially while awaiting trial of a minor sex trafficking.
The link between Trump and Epstein is nothing new. The now-shining photo captures Trump and Melania posing with Epstein and his companion Ghislaine Maxwell at Mar-a-Lago in the early 2000s. Additionally, Trump’s name appeared in Epstein’s flight log, recounting an episode in which Epstein once created an improvised stop in Atlantic City to visit a Trump-owned casino. However, beyond these references, no substantial connections have been legally established.
As the war of words escalated, Trump issued a harsh threat of cutting all federal contracts and subsidies with Musk’s company. “The easiest way to save billions of dollars within your budget is to close all government transactions with Elon,” Trump posted.
Ironically, Musk has begun sharing vintage playing cards tweets. One of 2013 was captioned “Smart Words!”, while the other received concise support from 2012 that “If your budget is not balanced, you should not be re-elected”: “100%.”
While some of Musk’s attacks may be surrounded by policy criticism rather than personal sloppy, Trump’s response was quick and clear. The conflict exposed the vulnerabilities of their alliances and raised new questions about the quiet content of Epstein’s files.
What began as a difference in opinion about taxes has turned into a full-scale public burst. In Trump’s own words, he might make “good TV,” but the meaning goes far beyond just a sight.
