The project will also receive in-kind offers from the local Hungarian industry, including props, studio day and post-production services.

It is already supported by the New Aquitaine region of France on a budget of 250,000 euros. It has a pedigree of development from Sam Spiegel International Film Lab in Jerusalem and won the Eurimage Award for Sarajevo’s Cinelink Industry Days in 2023.

“We talked about a lot, not just about film projects, but also about the impossible situation our industry is currently in Hungary. “What a rough reception they are.

“In this situation, rather than complaining, CCB is a powerful sign that is an exclamation point aimed at strengthening the filmmaking community, showing insults of the situation and supporting the creation of a single, very low budget film. The festival organizers say the CCB fund is “not an ideal solution for Hungarian cinema funding and long-term sustainability, but a necessary constraint and escape route in the current situation.”

“Filmmaking in Hungary is not just a business and occupation, but a profession, a community of great potential, and such important mutual goals have proven that it can unite industry participants in countries where democracy and its institutions are gradually dismantled,” the festival’s statement said.

The first Budapest International Film Festival took place from October 29th to November 3rd.
