Orton Matthews gave Toronto Maple Leaf teammate William Nylander a strange compliment about his misconduct.
Orton Matthews praises William Nylander for “cheating”
Toronto Maple Leafs captain Matthews quickly showed his praise for Nylander after the Maple Leafs’ 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The compliment itself was interesting for a 27-year-old. This is because it can be seen in a more divisive way of thinking.
During the match, Matthews expanded his incredible form after scoring the 19th goal of the campaign to comeback from injury.
His teammate Nylander was also crucial to his 5-3 victory as the 28-year-old moved up to second place on the NHL goalscoring charts, making a great effort to create 28 goals in 2024/25.
After this top performance, Matthews conducted a post-match interview, supplementing Nylander with a slightly different approach.
Matthews said: “He’s really good at cheating for attacks. In the best way possible he can read the plays, he clearly means very fast.
“And yeah, I make sense, but the way he can read the play and go behind you. Yeah.
Nylander has introduced a great display for the Toronto Maple Leafs this year, and many have put this in their relationship with Toronto coach Craig Berube.
Breaking the lightning bolts in Tampa Bay was huge for maple leaves. Because they were now sitting at the top of the Atlantic division with a five-point lead over Florida.
Auston Matthews and his teammates are looking to widen his gap and add another victory to their current winning streak in three three.
