Sweden – euro vs krona

Since Sweden’s recent decline in the value of the tie and crona with NATO, Europe has begun to question whether Sweden will now convert to the Euro.

In 2003, an euro referendum was held in Sweden, revealing that 55.9% of residents were opposed to the currency change. At the time, €1 equaled 9 crona. Currently, it is 12 pieces at 12 euros, dropping in value by 25%.

Since then, as revealed in a recent survey from the University of Gothenburg, with the Covid crisis, Brexit and the expansion of NATO, the minds of Swedes have changed.

In 2022, 16% of respondents voted for the euro conversion. By 2023, that number had risen to 30% approval and 43% opposition.

Despite these changes, currency changes affect not only the economy but also the sociopolitical state of the country. Abandoning Crona means following the liberals who are pushing for euro and EU policies.
