Putin: A Ukraine ceasefire could be possible

President Vladimir Putin has announced that a ceasefire could be possible in Ukraine.

After Ukraine agreed to a 30-day full ceasefire on March 12, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said “The ball is in the Russian court,” and Putin responded with the first signs of a move towards peace from both sides of the war.

Putin said he agreed to a “ceasefire proposal” at a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, but added that there are many questions in the US about how the ceasefire will work. He said he needs to talk to President Donald Trump before an agreement can be reached.

Today’s update from Putin contradicts what the representative of Russia’s Yuri Ushakov said at the beginning of the week. When he claimed that the deal would hurry and benefit Ukraine more than Russia, he reported that “he said this was nothing more than a temporary rest for the Ukrainian army.”

Has Ukraine been asked to have a peace agreement?

Russia and Putin may agree to a temporary ceasefire, but Ukraine has taken the first step towards peace. It is still unclear whether it was chosen or not.

Zelensky’s agreement to a peace agreement comes a week after the US stopped sharing all intelligence news and military aid in Ukraine. A week when Russian troops advanced their progress and Putin secured their position as long as they could safely visit the frontlines of Kursk. After Zelensky agreed to a month’s ceasefire, the United States quickly revived military aid.

Whether or not Zelensky says that Ukraine is ready to take a step forward

Zelensky spoke about the agreement with the United States on March 12th. “In conversation today, in conversation, the American side immediately proposed to take the first step and establish a complete ceasefire for 30 days, not just rockets, drones and bombs, but also along the entire front line, not just along the Black Sea.” He continued, “Ukraine accepts this proposal, we consider it positive and are ready to take this step.”

Before Putin’s announcement, it was reported that Zelensky said that silence from Russia shortly after the agreement to a 30-day ceasefire indicated they were about to extend the war.
