Last week tonight fans craving their John Oliver fix this week won’t have a fresh episode to satisfy them, but the show makes up for it by offering the first season for free on YouTube.
The official X program account (formerly Twitter). sent message on Friday.
“There is no fresh episode this week!” read X’s post. “But we still have current events. From 10 years ago. This Sunday we will be releasing the entire season 1 for free on YouTube!”
The post added that subsequent seasons will be released on YouTube the next time a fresh episode is not released Last week tonight.
“Seasons 2-8 will come if we don’t have a fresh episode. Trust us, some of them are still completely relevant. Some,” the post continued, accompanied by a video highlighting highlights from the show’s first season, which focused on topics including Gaza, immigration, the Supreme Court, climate change and the death penalty. Of course, he has returned to these themes numerous times on the series, which is now in its eleventh season.
In February, HBO announced a delay Last week tonight segments on YouTube for four days after the episodes premiere in an effort to attract viewers to Max, its sister streaming platform. Previous clips were released on YouTube the morning after the episode aired.
Oliver wasn’t joyful with the move and posted on X: “I hope they change their mind.”
When asked recently if he had further discussions with HBO about the move, he replied Hollywood Reporter: “Not at all. It was their decision.”
