“Instead of powering Reels, we’re working on a project to power our entire video ecosystem with this one model, and then we can add our channel recommendation product to be powered by that model as well,” Facebook CEO Tom Alison said at a technology conference Morgan Stanley. “If we get this right, not only will the recommendations be more engaging and relevant, but we think their responsiveness can also improve.”
In the past, Meta has used various AI models to make recommendations for each of its products, including reels, groups and feeds, Alison said. Last year, however, the company began experimenting with huge language models (LLM) and generative AI to provide recommendations across its platforms in a single integrated architecture. Meta is also working on other generative AI products, Alison said, including digital assistants and improvements to chat tools.
